Social media marketing in 2026, huh. Feels like every week there's some new platform or feature coming up. I genuinely lost track at one point.

Anyway. The point is, if you run a business or help one online, ignoring this stuff just isn't smart anymore.

Still shorts videos are dominating and it is not slowing down,i know everyone are tired of hearing tiktok and reels. Me too sometimes. But look at your own phone usage. How many times did you stop scrolling for a still image yesterday vs a video? Exactly. The format just works because our brains are mush at this point.

Influencers. Where do I begin. The space is messy. Lots of fakes, lots of inflated follower counts, lots of "authentic reviews" that are clearly paid. But the smaller creators, the ones with niche audiences, those are doing real work. A friend running a candle business told me she made more sales from one creator with 6k followers than from a month of running paid ads. That's not a fluke, it's happening everywhere.

AI tools are part of the workflow now whether you like it or not. Some people are obsessed with them, others act like they're the end of creativity. Personally I land somewhere in between. For the tedious stuff, drafting captions, finding the right hashtags, scheduling, analyzing what's working, AI is great. For the actual creative spark, the thing that makes a brand feel like a brand, you still need a person. A person with taste, opinions, weird ideas. AI doesn't really do weird well yet.

LinkedIn is meant to be professional but honestly half the feed these days is people writing weirdly dramatic stories about quitting their corporate jobs to "follow their passion." YouTube is a different beast altogether, it's where folks actually want to sit down and learn something properly, or get lost in a 40-minute video essay at 2am. Then you've got TikTok which is just chaos in the best way possible, half the time I don't understand why something's trending but I'm entertained anyway. And Facebook, people keep writing it off but it's still pulling massive numbers, especially with older audiences who basically live in the comment sections. My uncle posts there every single morning without fail.

For the future, my honest bet is on brands that sound like people. Not committees. Not PR teams. Just humans being humans, even if it's a bit imperfect. People are exhausted by overly polished marketing. They want personality, opinions, even mistakes sometimes. Vulnerability sells more than perfection these days.

Platforms will change. Algorithms will keep tormenting us. AI will keep evolving. But genuine connection with your audience? That's the one thing that's stayed true since the beginning of marketing itself. And it's not going anywhere.
